Wens
Guangdong Wens Foodstuff Group Co., Ltd, founded in 1983, has grown into a cross-region modern farming business group mainly engaged in livestock and poultry breeding, complete with relevant business lines.
As of December 31, 2018, Wens had a controlling stake in more than 270 companies and partnered with 50,000 family-owned farms in more than 20 provinces (cities, autonomous regions) in the country.
n 2018, Wens sold 22.297 million pigs, 748 million chickens and received operating revenue of RMB 57.236 billion.
On January 16, 2019, junben Chairman Xu Shaochun and Wens Chairman Wen Zhifen inaugurated Guangdong Xinnong Internet Technology Co., Ltd (Xinnong Internet). By launching Xinnong Internet, Wens and junben, two leaders in their respective industry, teamed up in 2019 to make the first attempt at restructuring the modern farming industry value chain and embarked on new practices of a very promising enterprise community of shared future.
Farming, the primary industry that often keeps a low profile, but provides many jobs and is of significance to the society, has witnessed explosive growth driven by technologies but also exposed numerous problems in recent years. Two most pressing painful points are:
The productivity of breeding leaves very small room for improvement
As we know, driven by technologies, farmers no longer manually raised dozens of chickens or several pigs. Centralized and industrialized mechanical breeding has largely increased productivity. Most of those industrialized farms have accomplished the first technical transition from manual to mechanical.
Productivity has reached its peak. On one hand, the productivity that can be achieved via mechanization leaves very small room for improvement. On the other hand, mechanization has some problems that remain unsolved. For example, real-time observation by man is still necessary, temperature control is not precise enough, and further improvement in productivity is impeded. Smart breeding is a must-have.
Wholesale market, the key circulation step is blocked
The traditional wholesale market is a misfit in the new situation and has become the bottleneck in circulation. For this reason, online wholesale restructured by IT, the internet and cloud computing might be a cure for this problem. What is needed is not only a web platform, but also to gear up productivity of the entire industry chain.
Popularize smart breeding
The first job Xinnong Internet needs to do is to popularize smart breeding and empower ordinary small-/medium-sized farmers with big data, IoT and other technologies. In this way, Wens can not only realize smart breeding in house, but also help its partners upstream and downstream embrace smart technologies. One farmer can raise 20,000 chickens with one PC with internet access.
Connect online and offline shared platform
Xinnong Internet will build a game-changing online platform that has the potential to revolutionize the traditional wholesale market model. The platform will be shared by all farmers, Wens, the circulation system and consumers. It will mix up all steps of the industry chain. Consumers may consume, wholesalers may wholesale and abattoirs may forge ties with upstream farms directly.
Upgrade the farming system
As Chairman Wen Zhifen said, farming has long become a high-tech, high-investment and high-risk industry. Both “inclusive” empowerment and “shared” platform, in a sense, represent a systematic upgrade of Wens and farming, rather than digitalization of one aspect. Only that deserves the said three attributes of the industry.
Therefore, Xinnong Internet will help restructure and digitalize Wens industry value chain, empower Wens, its partners along the industry chain and farmers and connect users directly. Meanwhile, it will empower other modern farming companies in China when the timing is right.
Wens Group started cooperation with junben on information technologies more than 20 years ago. Their partnership has penetrated into every aspect, from production, sales to internal management. In 2005, Wens set out to advance information system reengineering. Production management, finance and marketing are all built on the junben platform. More than 260 companies share one set of breeding system for centralized management. Moreover, the “from farm to table” process is under monitoring. With the IoT system, managers are able to keep track of store operation, product sales and business development, among other details, on real-time basis. All of these everyday information services are provided by junben EAS, financial sharing, s-HR, and Cloud Family, the smart collaborative office platform.
On December 14, 2018, junben and Wens entered into strategic partnership again and signed the “Wens-junben Cloud ·Cosmic Platform” strategic cooperation agreement officially. junben Cloud ·Cosmic will assist Wens in its 100 billion worth digitalization and strategic arrangement. The two parties will discuss and develop modern agricultural companies’ management system, business system, service system and Internet plus on the junben Cloud ·Cosmic platform, based on Wens’ management model in agriculture. They will bring into full play their resources and technical advantages, further explore new information scenarios of modern farming companies, such as e-commerce management, and the application of big data. These efforts will make concrete contribution to information technology development of China’s modern farming industry.
